American Fossil Solutions, LLC (AFS) is seeking a Construction Project Manager/Estimator to join our growing team! POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION: Estimator/Project Manager
The Estimator/Project Manager will be responsible for oversight and management of ongoing projects for the company, primarily in the Energy Sector. The Estimator/Project Manager will be working closely with other team members to ensure that all project plans, deadlines, schedules, and project budgets/estimates are developed and are on track. Responsibilities include site coordination and management, resource coordination, labor management, submitting project deliverables, preparing status reports, and establishing and executing effective project communication plans.
Targeted Work Experience
The candidate should be a proven leader with experience in estimating heavy civil construction projects, project management and/or have significant site superintendent responsibilities, and the ability to lead project teams of various sizes. A Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or related experience is an advantage.
We are looking for an estimator/project manager with 3 to 8 years of experience in one or more of the focus areas of experience. These focus areas are: fossil generation, renewable generation, electrical distribution or electrical transmission segments of the energy sector.
Estimator/Project Manager Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• This individual will be held responsible for all aspects of bidding Heavy-Civil construction projects
• Assist with project selection
• Attend pre-bid walk throughs
• Prepare accurate and detailed quantity take-offs & estimates
• Breakdown projects into functional stages
• Receive and evaluate vendor pricing and subcontractor quotes for applicable scopes and alignment with bid documents
• Work directly with owners, construction managers, architects, engineers and contractors
• Accurately review project schedules for applicable scopes
• Review and incorporate historical data from past projects into unit and man-hour figures
• Prepare bid analysis and review with the estimating group
• Prepare budget pricing or firm proposals as required for customers
• Preparation of request for proposal for applicable scopes of work needed including understanding small business goal requirements
• Provide a financial job cost analysis and project hand-off transition to the project team including risk analysis
• Resource subcontractors, materials and equipment
• Provide leadership to others through example and by sharing knowledge and skill
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in office and/or field environments
• Participate in the selection and oversight of craft foreman to ensure that all crew supervision responsibilities are met.
• Work with owner representatives to ensure that project scopes and requirements are completed as agreed to and obtain customer acceptance of project deliverables as necessary
• Develop good working relationships with owner to identify and develop new project opportunities
• Respond timely to customers needs without compromising safety, quality or the company’s reputation
• Provide subcontractor oversight to ensure compliance with budget, schedule and quality control
• Coordinate with cross discipline team members to make sure that all parties are on track with project requirements, deadlines, and schedules.
• Meet with project team members to identify and resolve issues.
• Responsible for execution and overall management of the project contract
• Submit project deliverables and ensure that they adhere to quality standards.
• Prepare status reports by gathering, analyzing and summarizing relevant information.
• Establish effective project communication plans and ensuring their execution.
• Facilitate change requests to ensure that all parties are informed of the impacts on schedule and budget.
• Coordinate the development of user manuals, training materials and other documents as needed to enable successful implementation and turnover of the process or system to the clients.
• Conduct post project evaluation and identifying successful and unsuccessful project elements.
• Prepare T&M project estimates (small projects) and write and sign letter TM proposals and small project proposals letter to customers.
• Manage project scopes and develop change orders as necessary. Write and sign change orders as a representative of the company and manage the C/O process with the customer. May be required to sign larger proposals developed by others.
• Responsible for project cost tracking to ensure that billing is accurate, complete, and timely. Ensure that project cost accounting is properly managed on firm price and T&M projects.
• Work with the project superintendent(s) to manage craft layoffs and ensure that the company’s layoff/payoff process is managed effectively. Communicate and coordinate payroll needs.
• Ensure that project and employee supply needs are met
• The job requires working with hands, ability to stand, walk and sit for long periods of time. Must be able to lift 75 lbs. Must be able to climb a ladder.
• Work with and constant communication with manager of the company staff.
• Adhere to and assure adherence by employees to company safety manual, customer safety requirements, and all local, state, federal laws.
• Manage union contracts, work with Union Business Agents, understand and manage local union agreements, the NMAPC and its associated Book of Decisions.
• Understand equipment capabilities for different applications/projects.
• Submit credit apps for vendors as necessary to the company for completion.
• Assist with the growth of our company in the Mid-West and Eastern US. Initial primary business targets are electrical transmission and power generation facilities.
• This position will work out of the Gallipolis, Ohio office and travel is required.
Estimator/Project Manager Requirements:
• Ability to read, understand and interpret specifications and drawings
• Excellent communication skills and leadership ability
• Must have a high level of attention to detail and cost analysis
• Ability to accurately read schedules for sequencing and durations of applicable scopes of work
• Proficiency with computer takeoff & estimating software
• Ability to juggle multiple projects and keep each on schedule ensuring that all deadlines are met
• Must be flexible and enjoy working with a diverse group in a fast-paced environment
• Must have a team-player attitude
• A bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
• Proven experience in heavy civil construction estimating and managing heavy civil projects.
• Ability to lead project teams of various sizes and see them through to completion.
• Able to complete projects in a timely manner.
• Budget management experience.
