Position Title:Director, Sports Nutrition Position Type:Regular Hiring Range: $85,400 - $102,487 annually; Compensation will be based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity. Pay Frequency:Annual A. POSITION PURPOSE The Director of Sports Nutrition is responsible for the direction and implementation of a comprehensive sports nutrition program. The Director will provide fueling and performance nutrition consultations and programming for assigned intercollegiate programs. The Director will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the Sports Nutrition Department, Connolly Fueling station, and all other assigned fueling areas. B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Comprehensive Nutrition Services ● Responsible for the direction and implementation of the comprehensive nutrition program. ● Provide assigned teams with meal and supplement support during pre-season training,competition, travel, and out-of-season sessions. ● Perform body composition & hydration assessments. ● Provide education to assigned teams at intervals deemed appropriate with eachcoaching/support staff. Attend practices as able to ensure proper fueling and hydration. ● Assess and counsel student-athletes on optimal nutritional practices for training,competition, recovery, injury and illness, weight management, hydration andsupplementation. Assist the sports medicine team and team physicians with anymedical-related nutrition concerns utilizing appropriate medical nutrition therapytechniques for concerns such as disordered eating, anemia, diabetes, bone mineralsdisturbances, amenorrhea, relative energy deficiency syndrome, hypertension,gastrointestinal concerns, food allergies and intolerances, mood disorders, and otherrelevant medical conditions. ● Assess and counsel student athletes regarding sport-specific and gender-specificrecommendations for optimal body composition and weight for overall health and athleticperformance; provide and coordinate meal and snack plans to promote achieving shortand long-term goals for athletic performance and overall health. ● Perform required surveys and review screening data for incoming students. Identifyhigh-risk students that may need additional follow-up and services. ● Per conference and NCAA rules, provide supplement evaluation and student athletecounseling for legality, safety, quality, and efficacy, and continuous awareness of allaspects of the supplement industry. ● Provide other nutrition related services, which may include but is not limited to: hydrationtesting, travel nutrition education & assistance, nutritional counseling, educationdevelopment, cooking demonstrations, social media management, prospective studentathlete meetings, educational material development, etc. ● Collaborate with relevant on-campus stakeholders as necessary. This may include:campus dining services, wellness center, student health, etc. ● Attend required continuing education to maintain RD status and other relevantcertifications. ● Coordinate with the Associate AD, Sports Nutrition on the management of the annualoperating budget for nutrition services 2. Contact and Liaison Responsibilities ● Maintain effective communication with team physicians, sports medicine staff, andcounselors regarding medical status of respective athletes. ● Maintain effective communication and provide performance nutrition feedback for coachesand student athletes. ● Maintain effective communication with all sports performance staff regarding nutritionalbest practices and operational requirements of the weight room/fuel bar and trainingsessions. ● Coordinate any required annual maintenance to ensure the safety of equipment. ● Assist with the supervision all external strength and conditioning trainers to assurecompliance of established program standards. 3. Other Duties as Assigned ● Abide by and be aware of all conference and NCAA regulations to ensure departmentalcompliance. ● Attend continuing education symposiums as required to maintain all diet certification C. PROVIDES WORK DIRECTION Provide work direction and supervise assigned student workers, interns, and/or graduate students. D. GENERAL GUIDELINES 1. Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services. 2. Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops and presents recommendations for improvement of established processes and practices. 3. Maintains contact with student-athletes and solicits feedback for improved services. 4. Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools; planned training and performance initiatives. 5. Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow. 6. Prepares and submits reports as requested and required. 7. Develops and implements guidelines to support the function of the unit. E. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Certifications/Knowledge ● RD or RD eligible. ● ServSafe food handler certification or eligible within 6 months of start date ● CSSD preferred or eligible to obtain within 2 years of start date ● Knowledge of NCAA, FERPA, OSHA, and HIPPA bylaws ● Current CPR, First Aid and AED certification 2. Skills ● Basic computer skills required ● Knowledge of Canva or similar programs ● Ability to interpret body composition and hydration data 3. Abilities ● Ability to provide accurate, timely and courteous service. ● Ability to evaluate, manage, and provide necessary referrals for disordered eating cases. ● Ability to conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments. ● Ability to create and implement policies & procedures. ● Ability to communicate effectively within students and an interdisciplinary team. ● Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, staff, and the general public. ● Ability to think critically and problem solve. 4. Education ● Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or nutrition-related field required. Master’s degree in nutrition ornutrition-related field preferred. 5. Years of Experience ● 3 - 5 years of relevant nutrition experience. F.
