Job Description

The Hot Work Coordinator supports ship repair operations by inspecting hot work areas, validating and organizing hot work tickets, coordinating fire watch coverage, and ensuring compliance with shipyard and government safety requirements. This role requires competency in hot work setup, hazard recognition, and computer-based ticket management.

Responsibilities

• Inspect hot work areas to ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA 51B, Navy, and yard-specific requirements
• Review, validate, and organize hot work tickets for accuracy and completeness
• Enter and submit hot work tickets through computer-based systems required by the government
• Coordinate and verify fire watch personnel are present, equipped, and properly posted
• Identify hazards, combustibles, and required protections prior to authorizing hot work
• Monitor active hot work operations and stop work immediately when unsafe conditions occur
• Maintain accurate records, logs, and supporting documentation for government submission
• Communicate status updates, safety issues, and corrective actions to supervisors
• Verify fire extinguishers and fire-prevention equipment are serviceable and available
• Support production and safety teams with hot work setup and zone control

Requirements

• Minimum 1–2 years of experience in shipyard, industrial, or marine repair environments
• Familiarity with hot work tickets, hot work permits, and associated safety controls
• Computer-oriented and capable of submitting documentation through government systems
• Reliable transportation and ability to work across multiple yard locations
• DBIDS eligible and able to obtain and maintain base access credentials
• Ability to read basic drawings, work instructions, and posted hot work requirements
• Physically able to work aboard vessels, in confined spaces, and in elevated or industrial environments
• Strong communication skills and ability to enforce safety requirements

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior fire watch or hot work coordination experience
• OSHA maritime safety training (10- or 30-hour)
• Experience supporting Navy or commercial ship repair operations

Additional Information
Work may involve multiple shifts, overtime, and onboard ship environments with heat, noise, and confined spaces.
