Job Description

NYC Housing Authority EEO And Fair Housing Investigations Unit Intern

The NYC Housing Authority (NYCHA) seeks a third-year law school student interested in starting a career in equal employment opportunity (EEO) and Fair Housing investigations. The qualified candidate will join the EEO and Fair Housing Investigations Unit, which is situated within NYCHA's Office of EEO, Fair Housing, and Access Services, as an Investigator Intern reporting to a Senior Attorney Investigator and a dotted line report to the Vice President & EEO Officer. This position requires strong writing and analytical skills and the ability to work productively in a team setting. Under supervision, responsibilities of the successful candidate will include the following:

  1. Intake employee complaints, conducting preliminary interviews with employees and residents to assess whether the issue warrants an investigation.
  2. Analyze EEO issues and conduct internal investigations of EEO and fair housing complaints.
  3. Draft investigative finding reports.
  4. Research legal cases, EEO policies, or other regulations as necessary.
  5. Assist in EEO programs, special projects, or trainings, as needed.
  6. Provide other support and guidance to employees and managers as needed, under guidance from either the Senior Attorney Investigator or Vice President & EEO Officer.

College Aide - Assignment Level - 1020B

Minimum Qualifications

For Assignment Level I: Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.

For Assignment Level II (Information Technology): Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.

For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow): Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.

SPECIAL NOTE Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.

Preferred Skills

- Strong written and oral communication skills.

- Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines.

- Ability to implement new EEO programs under supervision.

- Knowledge of EEO and Fair Housing laws and policies, or investigative experience, a plus.
