Job Title: Certified Substance Abuse Counselor
Job Type: Full-Time
Location: Abingdon, VA
Open to Residency Candidates

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct substance abuse assessments and determine appropriate levels of care.
• Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans.
• Provide individual and group counseling sessions using evidence-based approaches.
• Facilitate educational groups on substance use, relapse prevention, and recovery strategies.
• Document services, progress notes, and treatment updates in a timely and accurate manner.
• Collaborate with treatment teams, referral sources, and community partners.
• Assist clients in crisis and connect them with appropriate support services.
• Participate in clinical supervision (as required for residency candidates).
• Maintain compliance with ethical, professional, and legal standards.

 

Requirements:

• One of the following credentials (or working toward):
  • CSAC – Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (Virginia)
  • Residency candidate enrolled in a Virginia Board of Counseling-approved substance abuse certification program
• Minimum of 1 year of experience providing substance use or behavioral health services (internship/practicum may be considered for residency candidates).
• High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field preferred.
• Basic knowledge of substance use disorders, treatment methods, and recovery models.
