SUMMARY: Creates opportunities for and provides functional social and behavioral skills training to adults with developmental disabilities in a variety of community integrated settings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Implements client comprehensive Individual Service Plans under the direction of the Service Coordinator. Implements individual client Behavior Support plans under the direction of the Resource Specialist.
  2. Participates in client assessments and ongoing evaluation of client Individual Service Plan Objectives and Behavior Support Plans.
  3. Keeps timely records (daily tracking, case notes, etc.) of targeted tasks and behaviors for Individual Service Plans and Behavior Support Plans.
  4. Provides care and supervision while supporting clients in skills training activities relating to individuals and groups in community integrated settings. Skill training includes behavioral/social skills, community resources, independent living, and vocational skills.
  5. Provides clients with skills training to reduce or re-direct negative behaviors and promotes and reinforces positive behaviors using verbal and nonverbal prompts.
  6. Supervises clients in vocational skills training and maintains client time sheets for paid jobs.
  7. Assists clients with personal care activities such as toileting, feeding, and personal hygiene.
  8. Assists clients with personal devices such as a wheelchair, walker, prosthesis, or brace.
  9. Lifts or transfers adult clients.
  10. Lifts or moves objects weighing up to 50 pounds.

OTHER DUTIES:

  1. Drives van with clients to various community locations as required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Position supervised: None.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of six months related experience working with individuals with developmental/behavioral disabilities. College level course work in social welfare, special education, psychology, rehabilitation, or other related field may be partial substitute for paid work experience. Behavior management background preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of clients, customer s or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Current CPR and first aid certificates, certification of TB clearance, physical exam, fingerprint clearance.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to provide a positive environment that stimulates learning skills and maintenance; the knowledge and ability to apply behavior management techniques; the ability to follow directions and written behavior plans; the ability to adapt to frequent change; and the ability to prioritize work effectively to meet a variety of timelines. All employees must possess the ability to work with a cheerful and caring attitude toward clients, co-workers, and the community.

TUTOR POSITIONS

Summary: Tutors are Life Skills Coaches that work with clients who require one-to-one staffing. Listed below are additional duties for Tutor positions.

Tutor:

  1. Requires one-to-one attendant care for physical conditions and/or intense behavioral issues.
  2. Requires greater attention to safety issues because of aggressive, self-injurious and elopement behaviors.
  3. Facilitates communication and integration for client into peer group activities.

Life Skills Coaches who work as a Tutor receive a 5% pay differential.

Tutor Plus:

  1. Requires one-to-one attendant care for those clients with restricted health conditions.
  2. Requires additional training on client health issues and related equipment (such as gastrostomies, tracheostomies, colostomies).
  3. Requires additional documentation for Needs and Service Plan.
  4. Facilitates communication and integration for client into peer group activities.

Life Skills Coaches who work as a Tutor Plus receive a 10% pay differential.
