Job Description

The Mine Planning Engineer is responsible for developing, directing, and coordinating mining operations Companywide. The Mine Planning Engineer will support day-to-day activities of production.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Responsible for mining activities Companywide, including planning, preparation, active mine, and reclamation activities.
  2. Develop short, medium, and long term mine plans for industrial sand ore reserves.
  3. Develop ore/grade forecasts and schedules utilized by operations and sales; reconcile against actual production and sales.
  4. Use Surpac mining software to design pits, ponds, ramps, roads, etc. as required for mine planning.
  5. Design, implement, and monitor mining-adjacent projects such as tailing processes, fresh water supply, pumping, power, geotechnical requirements, drainage, permitting requirements, etc.
  6. Conduct studies and prepare reports on alternative mine designs and mining scenarios.
  7. Review mine operating costs; find and implement efficiencies.
  8. Evaluate alternative mining methods and equipment needs to ensure that the mining method is suitable and may have to be varied from time to time to ensure ore-from-waste separation is and remains effective with minimum dilution.
  9. Develop new greenfield mines with the Technical Services and Operations teams.
  10. Communicate and work closely with mine operations management.
  11. Assist the Technical Services team to estimate Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves Companywide.
  12. Develop and implement reclamation plans Companywide.
  13. Work with management to ensure communications of current mining operation.
  14. All other duties as assigned.

JOB SKILLS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. A bachelors degree in mining engineering, geological engineering, or equivalent.
  2. A minimum of 10 years of above/below ground mining experience.
  3. Expert user of Surpac mine planning software (or similar); competent with ArcGIS and Trimble Business Center (or similar) software.
  4. A minimum of 5 years of experience in open pit mine planning, implementation, and operating execution experience.
  5. Knowledge of how to prepare budgets, financial modeling, model cash flows, and an awareness of the main items in balance sheets and income statements.
  6. Ability to communicate and present information in a manner that is clear and understandable.
  7. Skilled in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  8. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; strong people skills; excellent organizational skills.
  9. Must be able to read, write, and speak English at a professional level to perform job duties safely and correctly.
  10. Drivers license required; High school diploma or GED.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  1. Work will be performed in both office and outdoor plant/mine settings; travel 25-50%.
  2. Occasionally lifts, carries, or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to twenty-five pounds.
  3. Typically bends, stops, and crouches on a regular basis.
  4. This is a safety sensitive job with safety sensitive job duties.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance
